What is a WhatsApp click-to-chat link?
A click-to-chat link is a web address that opens a WhatsApp conversation with a number you choose, even if that person is not in the customer's contacts. It has the form wa.me/ followed by the full phone number, and it can carry a message that is already typed in the box, so the customer only has to press send.
Put the link in your Instagram bio, a story, a Google Business profile, an email or a printed flyer. Customers who tap it start a chat with you straight away, and you can word the first message so you know where they came from.
How to make a WhatsApp link
- Choose your country code and type your WhatsApp number the way you dial it. A leading 0 is removed for you.
- Optionally write the message the customer will send first, for example "Hi, I'd like to order the chocolate box".
- Copy the link, or open it to test. Download the QR code if you want to print it.

What does a wa.me link look like?
It is https://wa.me/ followed by the number in full international format with no plus sign, zeros or spaces, for example https://wa.me/971501234567. A message is added at the end as ?text= followed by the encoded words.
Do I need a WhatsApp Business account?
No. The link works with a normal WhatsApp number and with WhatsApp Business.
Why does the link say the number is invalid?
Most often the country code is missing or the number has a leading 0 after it. Choose the country code above and type the number the way you dial locally; this tool fixes the zero for you.
Can customers who are not in my contacts message me?
Yes. That is the point of the link: anyone who taps it can start a chat with the number, without saving it first.
