When to turn a JPG into a PNG
Some tools and print shops ask for PNG, and PNG is the format to choose when you will edit a picture several times, because saving it again does not lose more quality the way a JPG does.
Converting a JPG to PNG does not bring back detail the JPG already dropped, and it does not make the background see-through. The PNG will also be larger, often several times the size. If the goal is a see-through logo, you need to remove the background in an editor first.

Will a PNG look better than the JPG?
No. A PNG made from a JPG looks the same, because the detail the JPG dropped cannot be recovered. It just stops losing more with each save.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG stores every pixel without dropping detail, so photos make large files. If size matters, keep the JPG or use WebP.
Does it make the background see-through?
No. A JPG has a solid background and the PNG keeps it. To remove a background you need an editor or a background remover.
